Without proper strings your guitar would be completely powerless and utterly useless. That is why it is necessary for you to use proper guitar strings that were made for your guitar and to change your guitar strings on a regular basis. However, many people fail to repair and change their guitar strings in the time they should. Herein you will discover the basic ins and outs of guitar strings and guitar string maintenance.
How Do I Know When To Change My Guitar Strings?
The first thing you should do in order to determine when it is time to change your guitar strings is to give them a look over. The first thing you should ask yourself is if there is any rust or noticeable wear on any of the strings. The second thing you should take note of is if any of the strings are actually missing. The third thing you should ask yourself is if any of the guitar strings are discolored.
If you discover that any of your guitar strings are in one of the three conditions above, then chances are that you need to immediately change your guitar strings. The above three signs are the most obvious indicators that your guitar strings need to be changed immediately. Failure to do so could result in poor sounding guitar quality. If you are a performer then you can’t risk not changing your guitar strings immediately.
Now, many beginners assume that if their guitar strings do not show common wear and tear that they don’t need to change their guitar strings. However, your guitar strings should be changed on a regular basis. The more that your guitar is used the more often that you will need to change your guitar strings. Just because your guitar strings appear to be in good condition does not mean that they really are.

How To Change Your Guitar Strings
Because every guitar is made differently you will have to refer to the installation directions in order to determine how to properly replace the strings on your model.
In most cases and with most models, you simply loosen the string (from the headstock) to the point where the string can be removed from the bridge. Then, simply unwind the string from the tuning�peg and remove it.
And generally, to install a new string, you affix the "ball end" of the string to the bridge (usually fastening it down with a bridge pin), and then threading it through the tuning peg until taut, then crimping the string about one inch behind the peg to use as a "starting point" for winding/tightening the string.
And finally - though there is some controversy around this - the general consensus is that you should only change one string at a time so that the guitar's structural rigidity is not going to drastically fluctuate during the process (which can lead to warped necks, string "buzzing", etc.)
However, one thing is for certain, you should choose quality guitar strings that are made for your make and model. You should seek out the highest quality strings in order to get the sound quality that you truly need and desire.
